At several places in the Qur'an and the traditions the relationship between Allah and His creation has been described as Allah's glory. The Qur'an says. The juxtaposition of the Progeny of the Prophet with the Qur'an is thus due to the need of the Qur'an for an exegesis that will set forth its purposes and regulations. If we look carefully at the content of the hadith, we will see that to separate the Qur'an from the Progeny of the Prophet and to follow the utterances and views of persons unacquainted with its symbols and truths is bound to lead to error and misguidance.
The tradition therefore implies that only the Progeny of the Prophet can establish the firm and categorical meaning of the verses in God's Book that are allegorical.
The fact that the Prophet places the Qur'an and his Progeny side by side indicates that both are advancing in the same direction and toward the same goal: To separate and distance oneself from the Progeny is therefore to invite destruction. The thesis, "God's Book alone is enough for us" came to prevail in their religious thinking, leading to the emergence of such schools as the Ash'ari and the Mu'tazilite. It was as if they knew the value of God's Book better than the Prophet himself and better comprehended its significance! It is possible to understand the Qur'an and explain the knowledge it contains only by referring to the utterances of those persons upon whom knowledge has been directly bestowed by God, or at least whose knowledge is derived from instruction by a particular source.
Such persons can be only the Inerrant ma'sum Imams of the Prophet's Progeny.

Seek the straight path of fidelity and the means of adhering to the Qur'an from the people of the Qur'an, for it is they who keep alive knowledge and learning and uproot ignorance. They never rebel against the command of religion and never fall into dispute.

Not content with his other utterances on the subject, the Prophet declared the number of successors khulafa' who would come after him: More importantly, the crimes those rulers committed, far from assuring the welfare and happiness of the ummah, brought about the destruction of religion, so that it is impossible in any way to consider them the successors of the Prophet.
Those who could not deny the authenticity of the hadith concerning twelve successors but wished nonetheless to avoid recognizing the Twelve Imams of the Prophet's Progeny were obliged to offer tortuous explanations that were utterly irreconcilable with the text and content of the tradition, for the first caliphs and the Umayyad and Abbasid rulers when added together come to a total of some thirty people, so that the total number of claimants to the caliphate from among the Quraysh exceeds the number specified in the hadith.

This is evidenced by his request for pen and paper being denied while on his deathbed, as he wanted to dictate something which will be of everlasting guidance and shelter of salvation. The motivation of this refusal was also unfortunately not very transparent and sincere, avoiding certain responsibilities. As a result of this, Hadith was banned from being recorded for a very long period of time.
There is a history associated with the banning order on Hadith, and when this banning order was lifted, people started recording Hadith. However, the infiltration of enemies together with the short-sightedness by some so-called friends, associated with forgetfulness and human error created this situation of Hadith recordings being questionable and needing to be verified before accepting. These factors cannot be denied.

Indeed this is the reality we are faced with. It is not at all acceptable and most incorrect to bring Hadith or Sunnah as a whole package, with all its challenges, in competition to the Holy Quran.
There is this trend of thinking of those who are on this opposite extreme of the Quran-centric approach, preferring Hadith right or wrong, weak or strong over the Holy Quran. Indeed this is a very dangerous anti-Quran trend. What is the way ahead?
This is the situation to understand the relationship between the Holy Quran and Prophetic Sunnah. Again, if the conflict is with verses of Muhkamat, then clearly Hadith should not be accepted. Now, if the point of difference between Sunnah and Quran is on verses of Mutashabihat, then it requires further analysis.
Also, where there is not necessarily a conflict, but rather it is additional information.

In this scenario we are referring to where the Holy Quran has a general instruction about something, for which Hadith provides a specific instruction. You will not find the specific instruction in the Holy Quran, but the same instruction which is specific in the Hadith, is encapsulated by the general instruction in the Holy Quran.
Hadith of the Quran and Sunnah
This is not a conflict, nor is it in addition to the Holy Quran. It is an explanation of the Holy Quran. He says that we need to understand that if there is a Hadith which is providing some information that is not found in the Holy Quran, the criteria for us to accept or reject that Hadith is to determine if it is coherent with the spirit of the Holy Quran and the principle values that the Holy Quran establishes. If it is coherent then accept. If not, then reject. For example, he says that according to Hadith, we should recite a Dua supplication upon the sighting of the new moon.
There is no such direct instruction in the Holy Quran though. So, is this Hadith in conflict with the Holy Quran? Not at all, because the Holy Quran establishes the general instruction of Dua supplication and requests us to genuinely reflect when observing natural phenomena. Now this general principle is established in the Holy Quran beyond any doubt and the Hadith in question is consistent and coherent with this general principle in the Holy Quran, and therefore it should be followed.
We also recently experienced an eclipse and there is a compulsory salaah for this in the school of Ahlul Bait a. This is not found in the Holy Quran, but again, it is not in conflict with the Holy Quran.
